In April 2023, AppalCART, the transportation provider for Appalachian State University and the Town of Boone, NC, issued a request for proposals for a real-time passenger information system. The goal was to enhance its 29-vehicle fixed-route service by providing accurate arrival times across multiple platforms, including web, text, and Dynamic Message Signs. Additionally, the system needed to include a management portal for dispatchers to monitor and manage operations efficiently.

Previously, AppalCart faced challenges with outdated systems that were difficult for passengers to navigate and made it cumbersome to generate essential reports. After evaluating several proposals, AppalCart selected ETA Transit for its strong reputation and robust capabilities.

A crucial requirement for AppalCart was implementing an accurate and user-friendly real-time tracking system that seamlessly integrates with its fleet. Ensuring that passengers had access to precise bus arrival predictions and operators had the tools needed for better service management was a priority.
