Bloomington Transit serves the entire city of Bloomington, including the Indiana University campus, with 14 different bus routes. Last year, it operated about 2.5 million rides across various modes of transit.
Over the years, the community has grown, particularly due to the student population from Indiana University, many of whom choose to stay after graduation. As ridership grows, Bloomington Transit expects to surpass pre-pandemic levels this year.
Previously, Bloomington Transit faced challenges with an outdated vendor that provided inadequate support and a poorly functioning automatic vehicle locator system. In response, they partnered with ETA Transit, whose cloud-based platform was implemented on all buses within two weeks, resulting in a highly effective system.
2024
ETA Transit’s user-friendly interface allows transit staff to monitor runs, stops, speeds, and bus locations efficiently. The system enables real-time detour updates, route changes, and improved access to data. This has significantly enhanced communication between the dispatch office and drivers, leading to better public information dissemination.
The GTFS real-time feed provided by ETA Transit allows users to see bus stops and positions on Google Maps and within the ETA SPOT app, offering a seamless experience for passengers as well as the internal team.
I would highly recommend ETA to other transit agencies. They are above and beyond every other vendor we looked at.
