Base period

The time between the morning and afternoon peak periods when transit service typically operates at regular intervals. This period is often referred to as the off-peak or midday period and generally sees lower ridership. It usually spans from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and in some cases, weekend service is also considered part of the base period.
