Space Coast Area Transit Terry Jordan
Space Coast Area Transit serves the expansive 72-mile county with 45 buses and two transit centers, providing essential transportation services to the community. The transit system records approximately 700,000 annual rides across various routes, reflecting the essential role it plays in the lives of residents. As the county has grown, so has the need for a more advanced and reliable transit system. Before partnering with ETA Transit, Space Coast Area Transit managed operations with outdated, manual processes that relied heavily on pencil and paper. This approach posed significant challenges, particularly in route planning and real-time vehicle tracking. In mid-2020, Space Coast Area Transit partnered with ETA Transit, which provided a comprehensive and user-friendly platform tailored to meet the specific needs of the agency. The implementation of ETA’s cloud-based system transformed the way Space Coast Area Transit operates. The new system allows for real-time monitoring of vehicle locations, passenger counts, and schedule adherence.

The system’s reliability has proven to be exceptional, with 99% accuracy in the data provided, ensuring that both the transit staff and passengers have access to up-to-date information. This enhanced visibility has streamlined communication between the dispatch office and drivers, making the entire operation more efficient.

ETA Transit’s GTFS real-time feed integration has further improved the passenger experience by enabling them to view bus stops and positions on Google Maps and through the ETA SPOT app. Passengers can now plan their trips with ease, receiving real-time updates on bus locations and expected arrival times.

Our positive experience with ETA's APC technology is a testament to its accuracy. The fact that the raw APC counts are already within the 5% NTD accuracy threshold without having to discard trips and re-survey. This gives us peace of mind and reassurance that we are on the right track towards achieving our NTD certification goals.

Overall, the collaboration between Space Coast Area Transit and ETA Transit has significantly enhanced the efficiency, reliability, and user-friendliness of the county’s public transportation system. This partnership ensures that Space Coast Area Transit can continue to provide safe and dependable service to its growing community.
