Boca Raton, Florida – March 26, 2025 – ETA Transit Systems, a leading provider of innovative transit technology solutions, proudly announces the successful deployment of a CAD/AVL project in collaboration with Stony Brook University. Awarded in January 2025, the project was implemented just one month from the kickoff call, ensuring a seamless transition after the university’s previous vendor discontinued service at the end of 2024.
The purpose of this project is to enhance campus mobility and improve operational efficiency with state-of-the-art transit technology. The system includes ETA’s flagship product, SPOT®, a cloud-based CAD/AVL solution, featuring:
On-Board Systems: A rugged onboard computer providing efficiency for bus operators through single sign-on, eliminating the need to log into multiple systems.
Back-Office Software: A comprehensive web-based platform with modules for planning, detour management, dispatching, reporting, driver messaging, and more.
Real-Time Passenger Information: Available via the web, with a white-labeled app coming soon, enabling passengers to plan trips, track buses in real-time, and receive live service alerts.
The project also includes Automatic Passenger Counters (APCs) for ridership analytics, Automated Voice Announcements (AVA) for improved accessibility, and soon a custom white-labeled mobile app, giving students and staff instant access to transit updates and trip-planning tools.
Joshua Adler, Project Manager at ETA Transit Systems, says, “This project demonstrates our ability to deliver cutting-edge transit technology under tight timelines. We are thrilled to provide Stony Brook University with an innovative solution that enhances both operations and rider experience.”
George Volz, Director of Transportation at Stony Brook University, stated, “Providing our campus community with reliable, up-to-the-minute transit information is a top priority. ETA SPOT’s technology allows us to do just that, with features like real-time tracking, messaging, and alerts that keep our Seawolf riders informed about their commutes. Furthermore, we’re excited about the added accessibility this partnership brings through Automated Vehicle Announcements. This system is a win for both efficiency and inclusivity.”
